First Person Action Research Initiative -What resources this First Persons Action Research Initiative currently has available.

I, Miles Greenford, am the major resource that this First Person Action Research Initiative currently has available. I am an early retired (grounds of ill-health) general nurse, with more than twenty years of nursing experiences behind me. These range from acute active treatment cancer units, through to rural community hospitals with GP/MD bed, Public Health Nursing – Health Visiting, to being amongst the first Public Health Practitioners in Scotland. I have lived and worked in a range of very urban through to rural and remote settings (considered to be so by those who generally don’t live there).

Academically, I have a Master of Arts degree in Nursing Studies, with a special interest in community health development. Much of my studies focused on community health analysis and empowering communities. I have facilitated a range of community health development initiatives and have undertaken Action Learning as part of an Action Learning set (I have also facilitated this). I was working towards a PhD before I became ill. This PhD was investigating the potential of the experience of hiking as part of a group, wild places, to promote spiritual health, and in so doing, promote and sustain health in general. My Diploma was in Community Health Studies, which led to my academic, and professional award of Public Health Nurse – Health Visiting.

Professionally, I started off in the Territorial Army Royal Army Medical Corps – 211 Field Hospital. I gained my Combat Medical Technician awards I & II. When I first started here, I was also studying computing (which I have kept a general interest in since, especially the internet). I studied and trained, eventually becoming: an Enrolled Nurse (General), Registered General Nurse, Registered Health Visitor, and one of the very early Recorded Nurse Prescribers.

My achilleas heel relates to my late in life formal diagnosis as, being on the Autistic Spectrum (Asperger’s Syndrome); which played a major contributing role to my health crisis. This health crisis, in conjunction with autism, has led to my continuing disabilities, which include my now communicating online, rather than being able to formally or informally communicate in face-to-face situations. This means I have been trying to identify what I can and can no longer do, within which, play to those strengths and experiences I still currently have. Determination, and an obsessive nature towards a specific subject, very much being one of those. A gift of my autistic nature – my special interests include: Spirituality, public health, internet as a form of communications, research, philosophy, ethics, natural/wild environments, hiking, and last but not least – Siberian Huskies. My family of course is in there too, somewhere.

I have financial support coming in from:

Professional Pension

Personal Independence Payments

Working Families Tax Credit. In order to gain this I have to be working, with the intention of gaining a financial income. This is where there is a major risk for me. I personally financially need Inspire Spiritual Health to generate any sort of financial income.

I have purchased the domain name http://www.inspirespiritualhealth.org, as part of a wordpress.com premium hosting package (£89 annually). I also have purchased the domain name http://www.inspirespiritualhealth.com (£11) to try and prevent the site being hi-jacked for ulterior motives. I have a number of other administrative and technical financial investments ongoing into this initiative.

My support base has been and continues to generously be provided by my wife, and Nicole Holt; a sessional lecturer and current PhD student studying the field of spirituality and health, at Canterbury Christchurch University. And I almost forgot to mention my Siberian Huskies! They are a vital part and aspect of my support, for a whole host of reasons!
